Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. She was the second oldest of 8 children. 2 of her brothers were fighting for the anti-slavery movement. Her family was Quaker so they helped slaves move north to freedom. She became an agent for the American anti- slavery association. Quakers also believed that all men and women were treated equal. So she talked freely at Quaker meetings. But when she talked in public people didn’t like the fact that a woman was talking. They asked her to leave. She obviously refused. She didn’t get to speak at this event but this was the start of her movement.
What was she fighting for?
She was an abolitionist, suffragist, and fought for many women rights. When she was young she was an abolitionist. Her family helped many slaves go north. Anthony helped push the 14 and 15 amendments. Many women were disappointed that the two amendments didn’t apply to women. After the Civil war she started focusing on women's rights. She was the president of the National American Woman's Suffrage Association. She voted for a presidential election. She was arrested and fined $100. She never paid the money.

Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. She lived in Swat Valley with her mom, dad, and two brothers. Lots of tourists came to see the beautiful view. Even Queen Elizabeth II came. Malala was very happy until the Taliban came. They started to destroy schools and forbidding girls to go to school. The Taliban made lots of rules in Pakistan. Eventually the Taliban were feared by all the people. But Malala’s dad was a teacher and he let Malala go to his private school. When the Taliban heard that Malala was going to school, they targeted her. In 2012 she was shot in the head. Luckily the bullet missed her brain and she survived.

After the Taliban tried to kill her, she still spoke out and told the people about the problem. Malala believed that education was power. She started a movement and fund to get all 32 million girls who weren’t in school, in school. She wrote a book called, “I am Malala, ” which talks about her life during the rule of the Taliban.

Malala is very unique and lucky. She got shot in the head and she survived. Even though the Taliban fought Malala never fought back violently. She is the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace prize in 2014. She was 17 years old at the time. The Nobel Peace prize wasn’t the only award she won. She has earned 41 medals, awards, and honors. Malala is a very good example, not just because she is an activist, but she has kept going. Malala kept fighting for what she believed in no matter who or what got in her way.
